Asuu Strike Agreement

The Taraba State University chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) held prayer sessions on Tuesday for God`s intervention on the ongoing national strike and other internal issues specific to the institution. Nigeria`s (NAN) news agency reports that Christian and Muslim members of the union held separate prayer sessions at various locations to demand God`s intervention. As part of efforts to end an eight-month strike by the Academic Union of Universities (ASUU), the federal government has reshuffled its team to renegotiate the 2009 agreements with teachers and others. Nairametrics had previously indicated that ASUU had cancelled its eight-month strike. It stated that the union made the decision after agreeing to accept the government`s NN70 billion payment and that the payment of its salary arrears should not be made through the Integrated Compensation and Personnel Information System (IPPIS). The federal government and the Academic Union of Universities (ASUU) are currently holding a decisive meeting on the two-week warning strike of university professors. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) praised the fact that union members would not return to work until all the demands that led to their national strike on 23 March 2020, as well as the issue of IPPIS, were addressed by the federal government and that measures that would encourage students to comply with Covid-19 safety protocols to avoid tragedies in schools were addressed , are made available. Forget their claim that they captured more than 90% of the teachers on IPPIS, if they did, they would have ignored us. They have abandoned the logic of reason for the logic of violence. People who are hungry, how can you tell them not to go on strike? According to ASUU, the imposition of IPPIS in universities is not only a violation of university laws, especially the hard-crafted autonomy, “it is dependent on the federal government`s agreement with ASUU.” The Academic Union of University Staff (ASUU) has threatened to strike if the Federation`s general accountant stops the salaries of lecturers in January of this year. A circular from the Federation`s General Accountant`s Office (AGF) to all public universities last week followed with information to hold January salary of teachers who refused to enroll in the IPPIS platform It was a bit of relief when the news that the strike action was cancelled, after the recent meeting between ASUU Top-Echelons and the federal government`s negotiating team , Minister of Labour and Employment Senator Chris Ngige, was led on Friday.
